*Read Goldilocks (pg. 52-59) and Pease Porridge (p. 11)

*Made Porridge

 What we Added…

*Made Blue Discovery Bottles (this is Roly Poly's new favorite thing!)

(one with water and dried out blue markers)

(the other with water/soap and blue items – glitter, pompoms, eyeballs, felt, yarn, straws, beads  - predicted which items would float or sink)

*Blue Lunch – well we tried…the macaroni and cheese was quite green and the blueberry smoothie was quite purple – sometimes it is easier to learn things when you can look at what it is not J Atleast the blueberries looked kinda blue

*Practiced the letter L and the /l/sound  (leaf rubbings, leaf necklaces and leaf painting with glycerin/glitter) - see The Letter L Post

*(Pages 6-10): Red, Left to Right, Faces, Name

What we Added…

*Made Red Discovery Bottles
(one with water/oil and RED beads, sequins, pompoms, crayon, crayon shavings, pipe cleaners, straws, yarn, etc.)
(another with water and 2 dried out red markers)

*Made Leaf Faces (not pictured – just arranged leaves into faces)

*Lined up animals from left to right and smallest to largest (not pictured but can do with anything – rocks, leaves, cars, legos, … whatever your kiddo likes!)

*Tape Resist Finger Paint Names (Single Stem post coming soon)

*The Letter E (see Exciting E post)

*Red Lunch – I had planned to do a couple red snacks but somehow we ended up having a red lunch (with a couple other colors)

Core Knowledge Preschool Week One (Bouquet)

This year I am doing the Core Knowledge “What Your Preschooler Needs to Know” program at home with my near 3 and 4 year old. This is a great program to do with your kiddos whether or not they are in formal preschool (many of the activities do not take long and parents are GREAT teachers!). There are 2 activity books (one for 3-4 year olds, one for 4-5 year olds). The activity books are much more than a workbook and have great early learning and pre-reading ideas. We are doing the 3-4 year old book this year and will continue to do the 4-5 year old one next year when my 4 year old goes to Pre-K. For the blog I will include what we did that was included in the program and what we added. Many of these ideas can be used whether you do the program or not.

*(Activity Book Pages 1-5): Name, Comparing, Teapot Collage, Guess Which One?

*Read Polly Put the Kettle On (Read-Aloud Book pg. 8)

 What we Added…

*Sorted Socks (Comparing) ~ Dump a pile of socks on the ground and find matches (older kids can learn how to fold socks together

*Played Memory (Comparing)

*Name ~ Use a glue bottle to write kid’s name. Kiddo puts on googly eyes, pompoms, beans, tissue pieces, beads, sequins, …what else?

*We had a Tea Party and practiced manners!

*Practiced the letter A and the short a sound (made apple print A’s and added a-words, read The Adventures of Abby Alligator {Alpha Tales Book}.
