Thanksgiving Treasure Hunt and Mr. Turkey Potato Head

Well, we have another treasure hunt for you…one for Thanksgiving! This one my friend Maria compiled with the help of Real Treasure Hunts. The hunt she created can be found and printed from here. My 7 year old solved the clues right away with no help but my 3 and 5 year old needed a little help. If you don't have one of the places for the clues you can just take out a clue but make sure you shift where you will hide the next one.

You can have any “treasure” you want at the end of the hunt. Maria had some turkey crafts for her kiddos as the treasure. I put 3 feathers (one for each kid) with each clue and then the treasure at the end was the rest of the supplies to create a Mr. (or Mrs.) Turkey Potato Head. I’m pretty darn sure that these quite possibly could be my favorite turkey craft we have ever done (and we have done quite a few)! As well as using potatoes for the heads I also got an acorn squash and a fake carvable pumpkin (clearance for $2 after Halloween). I wanted to see which item worked the best and they all were great.

Glass Jar Turkeys (Single Stem)

The supply to re-purpose for the month of November is Glass Jars so we decided to make some turkeys! I made the Newspaper Glass Jars (to represent my hubby and me in the turkey lineup) and the boys made the Baby Food Glass Jar Turkeys. There are many different options you can do with this same idea such as adding tissue to the jars, sponge painting the jars, using craft feathers and on. We made ours with the jar upside down and put a battery tea light in but you could make them right side up as well. The Stuff	The FUN!
Glass jar Newspaper or paint for the body Paintbrush Paper for the face Googly eyes Newspaper or scrapbook paper for feathers Glue	1. Make the body by either decoupaging the newspaper strips or painting brown. Let dry. 2. Make the faces (candy corn would also be cute beaks). Glue to jar. 3. Make the feathers by cutting paper or by folding newspaper (I did the newspaper fold for my boys but older kids can do this step). Glue to jar. Display!

Turkey Party (Bouquet Event)

Well it is November so what better time to have a Turkey Morning! We had several 3-4 year olds over some turkey fun! We started out with a turkey trot, then read Thanksgiving is Here by Diane Goode, then the kids and their moms made stuffed turkeys and cookie turkeys to eat! Gobble Gobble!

The Stuff	The FUN!
Newspaper Brown paper bag Stapler Paper cut into feathers Things to decorate feathers with (Googley eyes, feather, pom poms, sequins, etc) Glue Orange head, yellow beak, red gobbler, Googley eyes Orange legs accordion folded	1. Stuff newspaper into bag and staple over. 2. Decorate paper feathers (they are easiest to attach if they are put together like a fan and then stapled at the bottom, then stapled to back of bag). 3. Make face and glue on front of bag. 4. Fold legs and glue (or staple) on bottom of bag. Display!

Cookie Candy for face parts Fruit slices for feathers Pretzel for legs *optional – frosting or peanut butter	1. Kids make face with candy. Can use frosting or peanut butter to hold in place. 2. Then add fruit feathers. Gobble down!
