Leaf Necklaces (Single Stem Idea)

Leaf collecting is a great activity to do in the fall and this turned out to be a fun way to collect our leaves on one of our many leaf hunts! We used yarn and small paper clips but I am curious how ribbon and/or larger paper clips would be. Let me know if you try any different supplies. I had to help put the leaves on the paper clips for the 2-4 year olds but older kids can add the leaves themselves.

LEAF NECKLACES
The Stuff
The Prep
The FUN!
  • Yarn
  • Paper clips
  • Colorful leaves (collect)
Cut yarn so it is a good length for a necklace.

String paper clips on the yarn or better yet have the kids do it!
1. String 10ish paper clips on a piece of yarn. Tie the ends of yarn together to make necklace.

2. Put the paper clip necklace on and set out for a leaf hunt! As leaves are collected paper clip them to the necklace.

*More than one leaf can go on a paper clip.
**Bring a pocket full of extra paper clips in case you need more.

Loveable Letter L (Alphabet Wall)

We have been working on the letter L! It is fall around here and the leaves are a big topic with all of the changing colors. It is so beautiful! Ladybugs have always also been a favorite at our house as they are a bug that everyone can love. We had fun watching them eat the aphids off of a sunflower plant this summer. They are also great to watch change from a larva to an adult. The larva looks nothing like the adult – very interesting! If you have never seen the change, get a Ladybug Land kit – it is well worth it!

Framed Leaf Window Art (Single Stem Idea)

This craft turned out even more beautiful than I expected (the pic doesn't do it justice)…and it was easy with minimal supplies! Woohoo!

FRAMED LEAF WINDOW ART
The Stuff
The Prep
The FUN!
  • Glue (in a bowl)
  • Food coloring
  • Paint brush
  • Wax paper
  • Leaves
  • Colored paper (if want to make the frame - you could also just trim the edges and hang without the frame)
Go on a leaf hunt to collect leaves – the more colorful the better!

Cut a piece of wax paper and fold in half

1. Mix food color in a bowl of glue with a paint brush.

2. Paint glue on one side of wax paper (if you do both sides the leaves don’t show through very well).

3. Place leaves on glue.

4.  Fold wax paper over.

5. Let dry.

6. Make paper frame by lightly folding in half and cutting out a rectangle out of the middle. *I did this part but if your kids are older they can do it.

7.Glue Leaf Window Art to frame and hang in a window!

Leaf Stamp Trees (Single Stem Idea)

This was fun to do as the leaves are starting to turn colors. This is a 2-part process: First Part is the Straw Blow Trees and the Second Part is the Leaf Stamps. Both parts can be adapted based on age and interest. My younger two just wanted to paint the trees for the first part. For the second part if you don’t want to do the leaf stamps just go outside and collect different colored leaves and glue them down on top of painted tree.

LEAF STAMP TREES
The Stuff
The Prep
The FUN!
  • Brown, orange, green, red, purple and yellow washable tempera paint
  • Plate or muffin tin for paints
  • Water to water down brown paint
  • Paint brush
  • Straws
  • Foam/felt leaves (we got ours at JoAnn fabrics but at most craft stores)
  • Corks
  • Glue
Water down brown paint
PART ONE
1. Glue on foam/felt leaves to corks. Elmer’s glue worked well on the real corks but we had to super glue the fake cork ones.

2. Paint the trunk of the tree with brown paint.

3. Put splotches of brown on the top of the trunk and blow out with straw for branches (this was easy for my 6 year old but my 2 and 3 yr olds weren’t so interested in it and just wanted to paint their trees).

4. Let Dry

PART TWO
5. Put leaf stamps in paint and dab down on and around tree.

6. Let Dry and Display!
