We have had many (or at least a few) marvelous
mornings with the letter M! We have made monster masks, played marbles, made
mazes and more! Marble painting is fun and can be done with any cutout shapes or just on plain paper to watch the fun designs that are created.

Marvelous M for
(Seedlings ~ preschool age)...
Alphabet Wall:
Made Marble painted Mittens ~ I pre-cut some mittens (go here for a printable of mittens to cut) and then taped them onto our box for marble painting. Then we just glopped some paint on, added the marbles and started rolling. Then the kiddos taped their marbled mittens on their M! Check out the Art Based Curriculum book for this idea!

Books:
*Read Monkey’s Miserable Monday (Alpha Tales book) and The MN Book (Bob
Book Pre-Reader)
*Read some maze books ~ more like we looked through them (both had much more advanced reading than we could handle at the time) Maze Ways by Roxie Munro and Mazes around the World by Mary D. Lankford
*Read a marble book ~ Penny and Her Marble by Kevin Henkes
*I also read a “how to play marbles book” but I can’t remember the name and already returned it to the library – I had never played marbles before so I needed to read up on it.

Art/Crafts:
*Marble Painting ~ just put paper, paint and a few marbles in a box and get rolling!
*Monster Masks ~ this idea is from Art Based Curriculum by Nancy Diehl and
Kathi Kemper (it is a great alphabet
craft book). We also read the book they suggested which is Go Away Big Green
Monster.
Activities:
*Marbles ~ I looked up how to play marbles but then we just improvised
as we went along. We played “Shoot Em” – shoot the marbles into the M, “Let em
Roll” – throw all of your marbles at one time into the M, and “Dropsies” – drop
them into the M while standing up.
*Mazes~ This was one of those pinterest ideas that I have been wanting to do. Check out Easy Preschool Crafts for instructions. It was quite fun to make (I did this but an older kid could do it). A recommendation is to use tacky glue instead of Elmers or you will be re-gluing the straws down. The kiddos have had fun several times getting the marble through the straw maze! Check out Teach Preschool for a fun giant maze!
*Made muffins ~ we made homemade whole-wheat poppy seed muffins! Check out Thibeault's Table for a great recipe (I just substituted whole wheat flour for the all purpose and 2/3 cup agave nectar for the sugar)! Yum!
Letter Formation:
*Made a body M ~ I didn’t get a pic but they did this one together on the floor
by bending in half to make half an M each with their heads in the middle.
*M,m’s on the white board
~ Easy
as it sounds. We just got white board crayons too which are fun!
Music and Movement:
*Marching Band ~ we sang a Marching we will go, a Marching we will go, hi ho
the deri-oh a Marching we will go (over and over)
Snack:
*Mango, mandarins, muffins and milk ~ other ideas might be monkey bread,
meatballs, macaroni, mozzarella
More ideas…
*Glue M&M’s to alphabet wall (we
did this first but it got eaten)
*Mosaics
*Milk Dancing Colors (see bottom of Rainbow Party for this)
*Something with Monkeys
