Canvas Crayon Melt for Teachers (Single Stem Idea)

You may have seen these crayon meltings before - they were popping around the blogosphere a couple years ago. Anyhow, Hornet and I made these for his preschool teachers for a Christmas gift the year before last and I keep meaning to share them. You can attach the crayons wherever you want around the canvas so be creative! Just keep in mind where you want your “teacher quote” to go so you leave some space. Hornet and I talked about where he wanted them and then I hot glued them down (if you have a youngster then you should do the hot gluing). Then your kiddo can do the hair dryer to watch the crayons melt. This takes a little patience at first but is really cool when they start to move! Have fun working with your kiddo to make this colorful teacher gift! This would also be a nice gift for daycare providers, grandparents and more (just change the quote to fit the person)!

The Stuff:
Large canvas
Crayons
Hot glue gun
Hair dryer
Teacher quote

The Fun:

1. Decide where the crayons should go with your kiddo.
ADULT – hot glue crayons to canvas.

2. Put canvas on top of newspaper or do this outside.
Keep the hair dryer several inches away from
the crayons and heat up the crayons.
Move the hair dryer around to make them melt
in certain ways. Have fun with this!

3. Let canvas cool. Glue on a “teacher quote”
(I backed ours with black paper).

Teacher Quotes:

Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning!

What a teacher writes on the blackboard of life can never be erased.

A teacher's purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image.

The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.  ~ Mark Van Doren

Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another. ~ Marva Collins

They may forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel. ~ Carol Buchner
