Play and Learn with Goldfish (Seedlings ages 2-5)

A favorite snack for kiddos is often goldfish so buy the colored ones and have some fun with them & use them as a learning tool! We had fun counting goldfish, sorting them and then making Goldfish Bowl art project with them. Many were eaten as well. I rarely buy the Goldfish Colors so they thought of this as a special treat – sometimes it’s the little things!

The Stuff:
Handful of Goldfish Colors
Play and Learn with Goldfish printable
Goldfish bowl (click here for a printable) or just draw one on a blue paper
Crayons
optional: orange, red, green and yellow scraps of paper w/ 1, 2, and 3 written on them

The Fun:
1. Give your kiddo a handful of Goldfish Colors.

2. Kiddos put them on the numbered squares (1-10) and practice counting with them. You may have to practice with them or they might be able to do this on their own.

3. Now they can color inside the goldfish outlines if they haven't already (orange, red, green and yellow).

4. Next they sort the goldfish on to their matching color goldfish outline.

5. Now take the goldfish bowl and draw and aquarium scene. Glue a few goldfish on for a finishing touch! Make one yourself - it is fun!

My youngest is still a scribble scrabbler
but once you add goldfish it looks cute!

I did one too :)

6. Eat the rest of the goldfish for a snack!

Optional:
*1-2-3 Fish: Cut 3 pieces of each color (orange, red, green and yellow). Write a 1, 2 and 3 on separate squares for each color. Put them in a paper bag (or bowl). Reach into the bag and pull out a colored paper. Read what number it has on it and put that number and color of goldfish onto the fish outline with the matching color.

*Read One Fish Two Fish by Dr. Seuss

*Make a bar graph by lining up the goldfish in columns/rows by their color

*Make patterns with the goldfish

What else???
